Frequently Asked Questions

How many coats do I need on a hardwood floor?
3 coats of Varathane Diamond Floor provide the best protection. Sand the floor between the first and second coats with a fine-grit screen (120-grit) and between the second and third coats. Do not sand after the final coat.

Can Varathane Diamond Floor be applied over an oil-based stain?
Yes, but allow the oil-based stain to dry fully -- typically 24-48 hours -- before applying a water-based topcoat. A sealer coat of dewaxed shellac between the oil stain and the water-based finish improves adhesion.
